Barbara Nesbitt: “Hi, I’m Barbara Nesbitt, and I’m here with Professor Nasser Kotby from Cairo, Egypt. We’re going to talk today about the 17th Congress of IFOS that is going to be held in Cairo next year in October of 2001, and he’s going to explain about the Congress. I’d just like to say that we’re happy to have you here, Professor, and we are going to do everything we can to help you have a good attendance.”

Professor Nasser Kotby: “Thank you, may I borrow the brochure, the second announcement, and show it to the camera with King Tut? King Tut is our divine guardian but the whole Congress is put under the hospice of the President of the Republic because it’s a very important event. Actually, it happens every four years so I would safely say it is the Olympics of otolaryngology or ears, nose, and throat. This is the 17th such World Congress, and the first time it’s going to be held in Africa because there are zones in the world, and the first time it’s held in the millennium and in a developing country. That’s why the main theme here is ENT Problems in Developing Countries but we’re not going to miss the hot and controversial issues as well, and the scientific program will have 220 official events between the symposium breakfast in El-Minya, instruction courses and everything. We have invited leaders from all over the world - Latin America, North America, Europe, Far East, Japan, Africa, Middle East, and South East Asia, to cover these topics and then a place for 1,000 free communication and 1,000 posters. So it’s a big scientific program. But going to the Congress is not only for the scientific program, I have to say that with the attractions in Egypt, you cannot imagine that the people are just going to listen to the hot and controversial issues. The cultures that the El-Minya Valley is able to offer which is simply one-third of the world’s archeological treasures are in the El-Minya Valley, and we would like to show it to our guests in the best way. Myself being a certified guide in five languages in Egypt, I can show my friends this in the best way, and this was the main drive for me to bid and invite this Congress.”
