Barbara Nesbitt: “Hi, I’m Barbara Nesbitt, and I’m here with Dr. Murray Morrison from Vancouver, Canada. We are going to be talking about why Vancouver, Canada should host IFOS 2005. Hello, Dr. Morrison.”

Dr. Murray Morrison: “Hello, Barbara, I’m glad that I can be here on behalf of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology. Our Society wants to host the World at the IFOS, which means International Federation of Otolaryngological Society’s World Congress in 2005. You’ve had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Nasser Kotby about the IFOS World Congress in Cairo next year. In Cairo, each of the 120-odd member countries of the International Federation has one vote to decide where the World Congress four years after that will be held, and the Canadian Society very much wants the Congress to be in Vancouver. This meeting has never been in Canada and it’s time. The Congress prior to Egypt was in Australia, the one before that was in Istanbul, it tends to shift from continent to continent. It has not been in North America for about twenty-five years and we feel and know that we can put on an outstanding educational congress. We also know that Vancouver is notably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has outstanding tourist possibilities from skiing, boating, fishing, camping to many natural wonders that are there as well as shopping. The Canadian dollar is very attractive in that it is attractive for people who want to come and visit and not so attractive for us who have to go into more expensive places like the United States and spend our well earned dollars but it has many, many advantages. Vancouver is a very easy place to get to also.”

Barbara Nesbitt: “I was going to say, if you’re coming from the Middle East, Asia, or North or South America, it’s halfway around the world from most of the other people in the world.”

Dr. Murray Morrison: “There are many non-stop flights from all points in Asia, we are on the Pacific Rim and have a very strong network of connections. There are many non-stop flights from points in Europe and points in other parts of the world so it’s easy to get to. Vancouver is an extremely safe city. Our World Congress will be held in the Convention Center and we have enough hotel rooms within a short walk from the Convention Center so that everyone attending the meeting can be within a ten to fifteen minute walk from the Conference Center so there’s no need for buses or taxis and things like that on a regular basis.”

Barbara Nesbitt: “I spent three glorious days in Vancouver about seven years ago and that ride to Whistler Mountain is breathtakingly beautiful.”

Dr. Murray Morrison: “It is indeed.”

Barbara Nesbitt: “We went to Vancouver Island for the day on the ferry. There are many, many things to do that are just breathtakingly beautiful, and I’ve done a lot of traveling.”

Dr. Murray Morrison: “So our message here is to ask everyone who sees this who’s from a country that may want to take part is to get in touch with the executive or the president of their national society and encourage them to vote for us or vote for the Canadian Society’s bid to host the World Congress in 2005.”

Barbara Nesbitt: “We’re going to put this up and thank you, Dr. Morrison, and I look forward to seeing you there.”

Dr. Murray Morrison: “Thank you.”
